Huyton Family of Parishes
Exploring the Future
What has happened so far:
· March 2024 – meeting of Huyton clergy and parish representatives. Formed EFG (Exploring the Future Group)
· April/ May – Parish consultation. Six question questionnaires exploring where each parish felt things were currently.
· June - EFG used data collated from all questionnaires and meeting feedback to inform the next stage in the process. (available via https://huytonfop.liverpoolcatholic.org.uk/)
· July- EFG arrived at 4 Proposals, coming from the Questionnaire data, to be presented to parishioners for further exploration.
· October – Big Family of Parishes meeting held to discuss and give feedback on 4 proposals.
It is important to note that in between times, work has been going on to
support all of the above.
Where are we now?
The EFG met in November to reflect on all that you shared in response to the 4 possible ways forward. The opportunities and concerns that you highlighted on 2nd October, and in any other written submissions, can be accessed in a summary report here: https://huytonfop.liverpoolcatholic.org.uk/
This information has been invaluable in aiding the EFG as they seek to discern the way forward. It is hoped that not too long into the new year enough clarity will have emerged from this work to be able to share a clear way forward. In the meantime, please continue to pray for all of us on this journey, especially those on the EFG, as we together strive to discern the way forward. As part of this process of developing our family of parishes, the priests of the area recently spent two days to consider how we can work together as priests to support and care for each other, as we look to our future plans for the Family of Parishes . We also met up together to simply share a meal and some social time together.
We really enjoyed our times together and valued the time spent in friendship.
We are planning to meet regularly for times of prayer and reflection, and also gather together for a meal from time to time. We hope that this will strengthen and support us as a team of priests, whatever the plans we adopt as we come together as a Family of Parishes.
