About the Parish of St Agnes and St Aidan

Welcome to the Website for the parish of St Agnes & St Aidan. Our website is here to help share the information, news and events with the members of the parish and the community as a whole.

Our Parish

The Parish of St Agnes and St Aidan is a place of faith and community, supporting Huyton and surrounding areas.
Through our vibrant, committed and mission-orientated church community we:

  • offer welcome, liturgy and celebration of life events,
  • create and sustain community connections and
  • support those in need.

Our Plans

To enable us to continue serving the community of Huyton, now and in the future, action is needed because the St. Agnes & St. Aidan building is no longer fit for purpose.

The Archbishop and Diocese have given permission to develop plans in more detail and an assessment of different options is taking place. We want to create a flexible, inclusive, safe and sustainable space for the whole community that is used more throughout the week.

1. Enhanced and flexible community resource
We will create an attractive, fit for purpose building with flexible space for worship, as well as greater capacity and flexibility of rooms for small meeting and larger gatherings. Facilities such as lighting, Audio Visual (AV) technology and catering will be enhanced to support services, community functions and venue hire. Disabled access and toilet provision will also be improved. We will create a new parish office and optimise the site (for parking, for example).

2. Greater sustainability and local partnerships
Our building will have a reduced carbon footprint and be a local example for sustainability. A local landmark, we will contribute local regeneration and community development. We will develop existing/new partnerships with local charities and promote our new community facilities for venue hire and use by community groups. We will support more people, including those in need, now and in the future.

Total costs, which will be finalised once detailed plans are developed*, are likely to be in the region of £2.5-4m. The Archdiocese is contributing pre-planning costs and staff time to develop the project. The Parish has funds from the sale of land (St Aidan church and former St Agnes’ school – already sold) as well as investments and reserves, contributing an estimated 40-60% of costs. We also plan to approach trusts and the wider community.

*The Parish, in partnership with the Archdiocese, reserves the right to amend the project in the light of changing circumstances.
